Richard J Hunt – Contemporary Artist from East Yorkshire

I’m a contemporary artist based in East Yorkshire, specialising in animal portrait commissions and fine art inspired by landscapes and wildlife.

My journey into painting began more seriously after moving to Finland following university. What started as a creative outlet — using a simple set of paints gifted by my parents — quickly developed into a way to earn and support myself. During my time there, I held my first solo exhibitions at Nokia House and Nokia’s Tampere office, which marked the beginning of my professional practice.

Since returning to the UK, I’ve focused on developing a distinctive style that combines realism with more expressive, abstract elements. Working in acrylics and oils allows me to create depth, texture, and atmosphere while still capturing the character and presence of my subjects.

A large part of my work now centres on commissioned animal portraits. I work from clients’ photographs to create pieces that are personal, detailed, and designed to last — whether as a focal point in a home or a meaningful piece to remember a much-loved animal.

Alongside commissions, I also produce a selection of landscape and wildlife work available as original pieces and limited edition prints.
