Richard J Hunt – Contemporary Artist from East Yorkshire
Welcome — I’m a contemporary artist from East Yorkshire, inspired by the beauty of nature, the character of people and animals, and the expressive power of colour and texture.

"My parents gave me a travel watercolour set to take with me to Finland saying it might be useful. After teaching for a year I joined Nokia. Quite by accident, my friends noticed some of my watercolours and wanted to buy them. Soon afterwards I held my first exhibition within the corridors of the various Nokia buildings. It is these sales that enabled me to fly to-and-from Finland and ignited a lifelong pursuit of happiness"
My Story
I am a contemporary artist from East Yorkshire, born into a creative family that nurtured my love of art from an early age. After university, I moved to Finland for work, taking with me a gift from my parents — a set of paints and brushes that became the foundation of my artistic journey.
While living abroad, I began painting seriously, using my art to supplement my modest income and explore new creative directions. During my five years in Finland, I held my first solo exhibitions at Nokia House and Nokia’s Tampere office, experiences that inspired me to continue developing my practice.
On returning to the UK, I transitioned from watercolours to acrylics and oil painting, exploring techniques that allowed for richer texture, colour, and expression. My artistic influences include abstract art that provokes atmosphere and emotion, alongside a strong passion for portraiture, animal art, and landscape painting inspired by the places I’ve visited.
Today, my paintings combine realism and abstract elements, balancing expressive freedom with recognisable form. I strive to create artwork that stirs the soul, evokes emotion, and brings life to any space — whether it’s a modern home, a gallery, or a corporate environment.
